Be aware that new requirements for child booster seats in vehicles are now in place. However, law enforcement officers are instructed to only issue warnings until June 1, 2010. The Department of Public Safety issued guidelines including:

• Children 8 and older, regardless of height, will not be required to sit in a booster seat or car seat and may simply buckle up using the car’s installed safety belts.

• Children younger than 8—but 4- foot-9 or taller— also will not be required to use a booster or car seat. Current law requires approved safety seats for children less than 5 years old that are less than 3 feet tall.
